Trademark Classification (Trademark Class List)

Trademark application is made under 45 different classes as per the NICE classification of Goods and Services. Each trademark class represents a distinct set of goods and services. There are 34 classes of goods and 11 classes of services. Classes 1 to 34 deal with the specification of goods whereas Classes 35 to 44 deal with the specification of services.

What is NICE Classification?

The Nice classification is a system of goods and services administered by WIPO to register trademarks. It was established in 1957 via the multilateral treaty “The Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks”.

It consists of 45 Class Headings, 34 for Goods and 11 for Services, the Alphabetical List of Goods and Services and the Explanatory notes for each class. There are 84 States party to the Nice Agreement with the trademark offices of 65 additional States also using the classification as well as WIPO, OAPI, ARIPO, BOIP and EUIPO.

Class 8: Hand tools and implements (hand-operated); cutlery; side arms; razors

Class 22: Nets, ropes, strings, sails, sacks and bags and fibrous textile materials etc.

Class 23: Yarns and threads, for textile use

Class 24: Textiles and textile goods, not included in other classes; bed and table covers.

Class 25: Clothing, footwear, headgear

Class 26: Lace and embroidery, ribbons and braid; buttons, hooks and eyes, pins and needles; artificial flowers

Class 27: Carpets, Linoleum, Wall and Floor Coverings (non textile)

Class 28: Games, Toys, Sports Equipment

Class 29: Foods – Dairy, Meat, Fish, Processed & Preserved Foods

Class 30: Foods – Spices, Bakery Goods, Ice, Confectionery

Class 31: Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, Live Animals

Class 32: Beer, Ales, Soft Drinks, Carbonated Waters

Class 33: Alcoholic beverages (except beers)
